Q.  In light of 11.11.11 and Veteran’s Day tell us about your favorite solider and how he or she is saving the world. Fictional or real life.
A. Mine would probably have to be my FIL, who is a National Guardsman. He's been overseas many times to fight in different wars, and we are always happy to have him come home.  He's definitely done a lot for his country!

My sister also served in the Navy. :)

The missing dead call to Violet. They want to be found.

Violet can sense the echoes of those who've been murdered—and the matching imprint that clings to their killers. Only those closest to her know what she is capable of, but when she discovers the body of a young boy she also draws the attention of the FBI, threatening her entire way of life.

As Violet works to keep her morbid ability a secret, she unwittingly becomes the object of a dangerous obsession. Normally she'd turn to her best friend, Jay, except now that they are officially a couple, the rules of their relationship seem to have changed. And with Jay spending more and more time with his new friend Mike, Violet is left with too much time on her hands as she wonders where things went wrong. But when she fills the void by digging into Mike's tragic family history, she stumbles upon a dark truth that could put everyone in danger. (Goodreads)>
Why did I wait so long to read Desires of the Dead? (I have no idea!) I read The Body Finder earlier this year, and I absolutely loved it. Kimberly Derting has such an amazing way with words. I am totally kicking myself for not reading this sooner!

In the book, we see a lot of the same characters from the first book. The main characters are Violet and Jay, who I always enjoy reading about. We really get to see their relationship grow throughout this book, and I think they are a really great couple together. Jay is as awesome in this book as he was in the last, maybe even a bit more, actually. I found Violet to be a tad bit frustrating. She was constantly putting herself in some really dangerous situations. I wanted to yell at her for it. It wouldn’t be hard to talk to someone, like Jay for instance. She totally didn’t have to be alone. But she felt the pull, and just had to check it out. Silly girl.

The secondary characters are just as I remember them; Vi’s friends were a hoot, and her parents were great. (Although I do wish they had been a bit more involved in what was going on with Vi.) We are also introduced to some interesting new characters; new student Mike and his sister, Megan, and also to FBI agents, Sara and Rafe. Oh Rafe… He’s quite a mysterious character, and left me wanting to know more about his story. I am really hoping that we will see MUCH more of him in the next book.

This writing in this book was fabulous. Ms. Derting has a way of grabbing your attention, and not letting go. I was in suspense throughout the whole book, and I just had to know what was going to happen next! The book was also very well paced. I had it finished in no time!

Overall… This series is amazing! I love the characters, the mystery and suspense, Jay… (ha!) If you haven’t checked this series out yet, you definitely should. I will be impatiently waiting to read The Last Echo!

Happy Reading!

(Fallen #4)
by Lauren Kate
Publication Date: June 12th, 2012
The sky is dark with wings. . . . In RAPTURE, the highly anticipated fourth and final novel in the FALLEN series, Luce and Daniel are together . . . but for how long? Can history be rewritten? Or are some punishments eternal? (Barnes & Noble)

Why am I waiting on this book??

I love this series! Luce, Daniel, Cam... I love it! I still need to read Passion, which I'm hoping to get to soon. I've been putting it off since it's a prequel. I can't wait to read Rapture to get back into the present story.

In the beginning, there's a boy standing in the trees . . . .

Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn't easy.

Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place—and out of place at the same time. Because there's another guy, Tucker, who appeals to Clara's less angelic side.

As Clara tries to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make—between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?

Unearthly is a moving tale of love and fate, and the struggle between following the rules and following your heart.(Goodreads)
I didn’t really know what to expect when I started reading Unearthly. The book has gotten pretty rave reviews, and I had wanted to read it for a really long time. Well, I’m super glad I finally gave the book a shot! Definitely an awesome read.

The main character in the story is Clara Gardner. Clara has just recently discovered that she is part angel, and that she has a ‘purpose’ in her life that she has to fulfill. She has no idea what this purpose is, but she does have visions about it, which helps her figure what the future holds for her.

I thought Clara was a very likeable character. I definitely enjoyed watching her grow throughout the book. I have to say, she was a lot different than I expected her to be. I liked that she turned into such a strong young woman.

There is a love triangle in the story, consisting between two boys, Christian and Tucker. Christian is the perfect boy, and I had a hard time not liking him, but I didn’t exactly love him. Tucker, on the other hand, was definitely swoon-worthy. I love the relationship between him and Clara, it is definitely intense. However, I really want to know more about Christian, and I am really looking forward to seeing what the relationship between he and Clara will be like in the next book.

The secondary characters were well written. I really enjoyed Clara’s best friends, Angela and Wendy. I do wish that Clara’s mom had been a little less secretive about everything, but that just adds on the suspense for the rest of the series.

The storyline in this book is very well paced, and it thoroughly held my attention. I also thought the settings were very well described. I could see the scenery perfectly in my head as I read along with the descriptions.

Overall, I found Unearthly to be an absolutely fantastic novel by this debut author. I am dying to get started on the next book in the series, Hallowed, and am hoping to get started on it soon!

Happy Reading!

Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days.
The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war-- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

In this electrifying debut, Tahereh Mafi presents a world as riveting as The Hunger Games and a superhero story as thrilling as The X-Men. Full of pulse-pounding romance, intoxicating villainy, and high-stakes choices, Shatter Me is a fresh and original dystopian novel—with a paranormal twist—that will leave readers anxiously awaiting its sequel. (Goodreads)
Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi is an absolute must read. This debut novel completely blew me away, and left me dying for more!

The main character in the story is Juliette. When we first meet Juliette, she’s been locked away in a room by herself for the last 264 days, without any human contact whatsoever. She’s broken and, well, shattered. I have to say, Juliette was definitely not what I expected for this main character. After all that she had been through, I didn’t expect her to be quite so… amazing. We get to see so many different sides of her character, and you just have to love her. Once she meets Adam, she really starts to grow into a stronger character. I fell in love with Adam as soon as he was introduced to us. Talk about another interesting character, oh my, he’s definitely swoon-worthy. The relationship between Juliette and Adam can be summed up in one word: intense. Or you could say: extremely intense!

The secondary characters were extremely interesting as well. I especially loved Kenji, and some of the other characters we meet towards the end of the book. Without giving a lot away, there is a bad guy in the story, named Warner. He’s definitely an ultimate bad guy, but you still have to feel for him. I am looking forward to reading more of this story as the series goes along.

The writing in this book is completely different than anything I read thus far. At first, I didn’t know what was going on with the way the sentences were structured and the way words were repeated. This style grew on me very quickly, and I had no problem following along with the story. The way she described things was absolutely brilliant!

We don’t get to see a lot of what has become of the world while Juliette was locked away, and that left me more than a little curious. However, we were getting to see things from Juliette’s point of view, and with her having to be hidden, she didn’t get to see much. I am hoping we will get to see more of the world in the future books.

Overall, this book was amazing. It’s been a while since I’ve enjoyed a book quite so much. You MUST read it! Go ahead; I’ll be waiting to see what you think of it!

Happy Reading!
