Where to Buy:

In 1897 England, sixteen-year-old Finley Jayne has no one…except the "thing" inside her.

When a young lord tries to take advantage of Finley, she fights back. And wins. But no normal Victorian girl has a darker side that makes her capable of knocking out a full-grown man with one punch…

Only Griffin King sees the magical darkness inside her that says she's special, says she's one of them. The orphaned duke takes her in from the gaslit streets against the wishes of his band of misfits: Emily, who has her own special abilities and an unrequited love for Sam, who is part robot; and Jasper, an American cowboy with a shadowy secret.

Griffin's investigating a criminal called The Machinist, the mastermind behind several recent crimes by automatons. Finley thinks she can help—and finally be a part of something, finally fit in.

But The Machinist wants to tear Griff's little company of strays apart, and it isn't long before trust is tested on all sides. At least Finley knows whose side she's on—even if it seems no one believes her. -Goodreads

The Girl in the Steel Corset is, well… WOW! I believe this is only the second Steam-Punk novel that I have read so far, and I really, really enjoyed it! If I hadn’t have been so busy this past week, I totally could have read this book in one sitting. It was that good.

I loved the characters, especially the main character, Finley. She’s torn between her two selves, the good side and the bad side. (Think Jekyll and Hyde.) She’s a bad-ass, but she also has a conscious. I like that she’s such a strong character, even when she’s at odds with herself. She doesn’t need anyone to stick up for her; she can take on just about anyone! I love, love, love Griffin. I love that he’s not your typical male character. He’s nobility, but he doesn’t let it go to his head. He’s calm, laid back, drama free, and knows exactly what he wants. And he pretty much gets what he wants as well. He cares for his friends like they were his family. Love him!

The other characters are just as awesome as well. I love Jack Dandy. I haven’t quite got him figured out yet, but I like him! Sam acts like a typical man, but I like him even still. Emily is kind hearted and a bloody genius. I love Jasper as well. SO many great characters! I would go on and on about them.

The storyline is so very creative, and wonderfully written. I was lost in the language and the world that Kady Cross created. I’m absolutely fascinated now, and I want to read MORE! I really can’t wait to add this book to my shelf, so I can stare at the awesome cover. It’s a series as well, so I can’t wait to read the next book!

Thank you to the awesome people at Harlequin Teen, who have some of the most awesome YA books, and to Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book!

  1. LOVED this one! I've tried a bunch of steampunk since then and it's all too depressing or creepy. I want fun and fast and more Finley-type characters! Great review.

  5. I'm having a horrible time with Blogger today so I hope my comment goes through this time.

I really wanted to get this book from Netgalley, but was rejected. I guess I'll just have to get it from the library.
