Bad Taste in Boys is a quick, fun read that will keep you wondering just what’s going to happen next!

Kate is in-training sports trainer to her high school football team. When a player gets banged up during a game, Kate is there to fix them up! When the players on the football team start having some weird side effects to an injection given to them by their coach, it’s up to Kate to save the day!

I found Kate to be such a fun, easy going character. She was also a very strong character. Instead of moaning and groaning, and waiting for someone to protect her, she takes matters into her own hands and tries to keep everyone safe. I always find that admirable in a character. And to be honest, it’s really nice to see a girl saving the day for once.

The secondary characters were likeable, for the most part. (I can’t say I really cared for the flesh-eating zombies!) Kate’s crush, Aaron, was very sweet, and while their relationship didn’t have a big part in the book, it was still sweet to read about.

The plot and writing style was simple and easy to follow. The author had a wonderful way of holding my attention and keeping me guessing about what the zombies would do next!

Overall, this was a really fun, enjoyable read! Perfect for Halloween!

Silence is a read I’ve been anxiously away since I finished reading Crescendo last year. I’ll try to keep this as spoiler free as possible! If you haven’t read the other books in this series, you definitely should!

If you have read the series, you will know that the main character in the story in Nora. I have always really liked Nora since the first book. She did frustrate me at times in Silence, she didn’t always make the best decision about things. I know that the story wouldn’t have been the same if she hadn’t made the decisions she made, but it was still frustrating. Otherwise, I still enjoyed her character.

Patch is definitely the best part of the book for me. Unfortunately, we don’t see much of him during the first half of the book. I kept waiting and waiting for him to show up more, but we don’t see a lot of him until the second half of the book. Patch is so awesome; I really just love his character. I love the way he treats Nora. Oh my gosh, he’s so swoon-worthy!

The secondary characters were pretty so-so for me. I didn’t care for Vee in the first book, but she grew on me in the second book. She didn’t really make much of an impression on me after reading this book. Hank, who we met in the second book, was a great villain, he was so evil!

Mrs. Fitzpatrick did a really great job with the storyline for this book. It definitely had it all; action, suspense, romance. I was completely hooked throughout the book, and I was a bit sad that I finished it so quickly.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book! I am so glad to hear that there’s going to be a fourth book in the series. Bring It On!

Dearly, Departed is a book that starts off strong, and keeps you on the edge right until the very end. After hearing so many good things about this book, I just knew I had to read it. I’m so glad that I did!

The main character in the story is Nora Dearly. Nora is not your average teenage aristocrat. Instead of caring about balls and suitors, she has a passion for political and military history. In the beginning, I was worried that Nora was going to be another of those weak, wimpy heroines that I am constantly rolling my eyes at. I’m so glad that she turned out to be the complete opposite. One quote in the book describes her perfectly: “Because I’m not a princess. I have a temper and I’m impetuous and I have series issues when it comes to keeping my mouth shut.” Love her!

Bram is an undead soldier that helped kidnap Nora in the night, to protect her from the zombies that are running amuck. I thought he was a really interesting character as well. He is definitely not what I think of when I think of zombies, and I had a bit of a hard time picturing him as a zombie. However, I thought he was a wonderful character. Strong and brave, noble and caring, he really had it all. I really liked the relationship between Bram and Nora. It grew at just the right pace, and was well written. I still have a bit of a hard time seeing Zombies as love interests, but they are starting to grow on me! (It works for vampires, why not for zombies???)

The secondary characters were really great as well. I really loved Nora’s best friend, Pamela. As if I haven’t mentioned it before, I really love awesome best friends! I also enjoyed Bram’s fellow soldiers, Chase, Tom, and the whole crew. They were great for a laugh!

The world-building in the book was really interesting. The author did a great job of describing not only the setting, but also the people. Some of the zombie descriptions were a bit too well described for my liking. HA!

Overall, this was a book I really enjoyed more than I thought I would. The characters and the story were really creative. I am looking forward to adding this to my collection!

Jessica Rules the Dark Side is the sequel to Beth Fantaskey’s Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side, which I read and enjoyed last year. I jumped when the opportunity arose to read this book!

Jessica Rules the Dark Side starts off where Jessica’s Guide ends. Jessica and Lucas are now married, and are trying to prove to the elders that they are capable enough to be king and queen. In the beginning of the book, I found Jessica to be a little disappointing. She was a pretty strong character in the previous book, but here she seemed a little overwhelmed with the royal role that she has been given. We see her back down quite a few times, much to the dismay of Lucas. She does, however, become a stronger character again towards the middle of the novel. Lucas is as great as always, and still somewhat mysterious. We don’t see much interaction between the two this time around, and I did miss seeing them together. The times they were together were great!

I really enjoyed the secondary characters, mostly Mindy and Raniero. Mindy is the most perfect best friend, ever! I really liked her, and glad we got to see a lot of her in this book. Raniero is a new character to me, and I really liked him as well. He is definitely a complex character, and I enjoyed seeing the different sides of him. The elders are as villainous as always, and I didn’t really care for them, or for Jessica’s relatives, Uncle Dorin and her cousin, Ylenia.

The writing in the book was well paced and held my attention. I really enjoyed the parts where Lucas and Raniero communicated back and forth through email. Those parts reminded me of the letters that Lucas wrote to his ‘uncles’ in the previous book.

Overall, I thought Jessica Rules the Dark Side was a good read. I would totally love it if Ms. Fantaskey would write a third novel for the series!

The Future of Us was a really nostalgic read for me. I remember getting my first computer around the time AOL was becoming popular. So reading this book brought back a lot of memories for me.

The main characters in the story were Emma, and her best friend/neighbor, Josh. Emma has just gotten her first computer from her dad, and while she’s setting it up, Josh brings over a CD for America Online. After creating her account on AOL, Emma discovers another website called Facebook, which allows her to see herself, Josh, and all their friends and family members, 15 years into the future.

I found the Emma and Josh to be likable characters, although they never really did anything that made them stand out. I found Emma to be a bit frustrating at times, because she never seemed to be happy with her life, and some of the decisions she made were really rash. I really enjoyed the secondary characters as well. Emma and Josh’s best friends, Tyson and Kellan were really great characters. I think I may have liked them a bit more than the main characters.

I love, love, love all the references from the 1990’s. This really brings back memories of my teen years. The music that is mentioned in the book is the same music I listened to: Dave Matthews Band and Green Day. I loved them! There was also mention of the movie Wayne’s World. I remember watching that movie all the time! Reading this book brought it all rushing back. Those were the good times!

Overall, this book was an enjoyable read. It brought back a whole lot of memories for me, and it was great to step back in time for a while.

Review: The Iron Knight by Julie Kagawa

The Iron Fey series is definitely one of my most favorite series of all time. These are books that I can see myself reading over, and over again. I love them that much. If you haven’t read the Iron Fey series yet, they are a must read! I highly recommend these books.

Here are my thoughts on this book, and I’m trying to keep it as spoiler free as possible!

In The Iron Knight, we join Ash on his search to the end of the world to find a soul, so that he can become a mortal and live in the Iron Realm with his love, Meghan. Unlike the other books in the series, The Iron Knight is told from Ash’s point of view. I’ve loved Ash since the beginning of the series. I love the many different sides we get to see of him in this book. Ash is one of my most favorite hero’s ever, and seeing everything from his point of view just made me love him even more.

Dear Puck… There is never a dull moment with him around. I really loved the way he and Ash interacted throughout this book. They got into quite a bit of trouble together, and at times I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see how they were going to get out of said trouble. I have to say, if Julie Kagawa wanted to write a series about Puck, I would totally read it. I would love for him to have his own happily ever after.

Grim the cat is still awesome, as always. We are also introduced to a few new characters, one in which I especially loved; the big, bad wolf.

The one thing I really missed in this book was Meghan. I’ve grown so used to reading from her point of view. The parts we did see her in the book were enjoyable, but I missed the interactions between her and Ash, and especially her and Puck.

The world building in this book is amazing. Julie Kagawa has such a creative mind. The descriptions where so detailed, I could see everything clearly in my mind. I love that Julie also wasn’t afraid to set up impossible situations for the characters to be in. Quite a few times I was worried about how exactly there were going to survive through make it through alive.

Overall, The Iron Knight is a great conclusion to this wonderful series. I am so sad to see it all end, but I’m excited to see where Julie Kagawa takes us in her next series.

Why am I Waiting On this book??

I read, and LOVED Graceling. It's absolutely amazing, and it's one of my favorite books ever. I've been dying to get back into this world, I need my Po fix! I still need to read Fire as well. I've been putting it off, so I must do that soon!
