After accidentally
unleashing the gods from their captivity on Olympus, Helen must find a
way to re-imprison them without starting a devastating war. But the gods
are angry, and their thirst for blood already has a body count. To
make matters worse, the Oracle reveals that a diabolical Tyrant is
lurking among them, which drives a wedge between the once-solid group of
friends. As the gods use the Scions against one another, Lucas’s life
hangs in the balance. Still unsure whether she loves him or Orion, Helen
is forced to make a terrifying decision, for war is coming to her
shores. In Josephine Angelini’s compelling conclusion to the
masterfully woven Starcrossed trilogy, a goddess must rise above it all
to change a destiny that’s been written in the stars. With worlds built
just as fast as they crumble, love and war collide in an all-out battle
that will leave no question unanswered and no heart untouched. (Goodreads)
Hey guys! Long time, no see!
I'm seriously out of the loop lately. :( Life has been busy. But I'm trying to get it back together!
So I discovered that the cover for GODDESS was released this week! (The covers for this series are so gorgeous.) I love the Starcrossed series, it's amazing, and Josephine Angelini is a writing genius. I can't wait to dive back into this series to see what happens with Helen and my favorite Starcrossed characters!
Perfect for the fans of Shatter Me who are desperately awaiting the release of Unravel Me,
this novella-length digital original will bridge the gap between these
two novels from the perspective of the villain we all love to hate,
Warner, the ruthless leader of Sector 45.
In Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me,
Juliette escaped from The Reestablishment by seducing Warner—and then
putting a bullet in his shoulder. But as she’ll learn in Destroy Me, Warner is not that easy to get rid of. . .
Back
at the base and recovering from his near-fatal wound, Warner must do
everything in his power to keep his soldiers in check and suppress any
mention of a rebellion in the sector. Still as obsessed with Juliette as
ever, his first priority is to find her, bring her back, and dispose of
Adam and Kenji, the two traitors who helped her escape. But when
Warner’s father, The Supreme Commander of The Reestablishment, arrives
to correct his son’s mistakes, it’s clear that he has much different
plans for Juliette. Plans Warner simply cannot allow.
Set after Shatter Me and before its forthcoming sequel, Unravel Me, Destroy Me is a novella told from the perspective of Warner, the ruthless leader of Sector 45. (Goodreads)
Destroy Me is a much anticipated novella in the Shatter Me series by the brilliant Tahereh Mafi. In this novella, we get a glimpse into the life of the mysterious Warner, right after the cliffhanger ending in Shatter Me. While this story is short at 150 pages, I enjoyed is so very much.
I have loved Warner’s character since we first met him in Shatter Me. He was so very mysterious and intriguing. While I wanted to dislike him for all the bad things he did, especially to Juliette, I just couldn’t help but love him. Getting to view this little peek into his life just made me love him even more. We get an even better feeling for why he is the way he is. Poor kid, you just want to hug him, and keep on hugging. The range of emotions that we experience with Warner is just mind blowing. I can’t wait to read more about him in the next book!
We also get to meet Warner’s psycho dad in this novella. Meeting him explains so much. He is one of those characters that you will definitely love to hate. I know I did! Unfortunately, we don’t get to see much of Juliette or Adam this time around, but I can’t wait until they meet again!
Overall, I really enjoyed reading this short novella! Tahereh Mafi is such an excellent writer. Reading this has gotten me so excited to finally get my hands on Unravel Me next year!
A few new books for me this week. I found Carnival of Souls at the library this week, and I can't wait to get started on it!
I was SO excited to find The Spindlers in my mailbox this week. HarperCollins must know how much I adore Lauren Oliver. lol! I am so excited to read her newest book. :)
I must get caught up on The Morganville Vamp series so that I can read Bitter Blood. :) The Steam Mole was sent from the awesome people at Prometheus books.
I can't wait to read ALL of these books!
So, what new books did you guys get this week???

That’s what the other girls whisper behind her back. But sixteen year-old Adelice Lewys has a secret: she wants to fail.
Gifted
with the ability to weave time with matter, she’s exactly what the
Guild is looking for, and in the world of Arras, being chosen as a
Spinster is everything a girl could want. It means privilege, eternal
beauty, and being something other than a secretary. It also means the
power to embroider the very fabric of life. But if controlling what
people eat, where they live and how many children they have is the price
of having it all, Adelice isn’t interested.
Not that her feelings matter, because she slipped and wove a moment at testing, and they’re coming for her—tonight.
Now
she has one hour to eat her mom’s overcooked pot roast. One hour to
listen to her sister’s academy gossip and laugh at her Dad’s stupid
jokes. One hour to pretend everything’s okay. And one hour to escape.
Because once you become a Spinster, there’s no turning back. (Goodreads)
I really didn’t know what to expect when I started reading Crewel. I had heard really good things about the book, but I just didn’t think I would like it based on the summary. I must say, Crewel was, by far, one of the best books I have read so far in 2012. Let me try to explain to you why I think this, without giving too much away!
I found the characters in the story to be very interesting, and each for their own reasons. The main character, Adelice, was a very smart and gifted young lady, who was even at times a bit snarky. (I love snarky characters!) The best thing about Adelice, is that she grows stronger and more mature throughout the novel. With all of the horrible things that happen to her throughout the book, she manages to stay strong. I always find that admirable.
There are two love interests in the story, Erik and Josten. While I found each boy to be mysterious and engrossing, I was rooting for Josten the whole time. I really felt that I connected with him more than I did with Erik, and I wonder if it is because Josten is basically the underdog. (That and he treated Adelice very well.)
Of course, while there are characters in the novel that you will love, there are also some that you are really going to hate. You will hate them with a passion! I will let you discover who those characters are on your own, but consider yourself warned!
I love the plot for the novel. I found it to be quite unique and refreshing. The idea of women being spinsters and actually weaving threads of time, it was so very unique. The plot and the wonderful descriptions definitely kept me turning the page. The ending leaves you on a pretty big cliffhanger, and it is one that will leave you begging for the next book!
The only problem that I had with the books was with some of the characters names. They were really different from the normal, which is not a bad thing at all! I just kept going back over them trying to figure out how exactly they were pronounced. But after a while, I got used to them.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book, so much more than I expected to! (I love it when that happens!) I’m definitely going to order a finished copy to add to my collection. And I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in the series.
I
thought vampires were our enemies - they controlled our lives, isolated
our cities, and demanded our blood - until I met Victor. With Victor
taking over as the new Lord Valentine, things were supposed to get
better. Instead, they're worse than ever.
Day Walkers, a new
breed of vampires who can walk in the sun, are terrorizing the city.
Blood supplies are low, and if Victor's vampires don't get enough, they
will become infected with the Thirst - a disease that will turn them
into mindless killers.
To stop it, I must journey across the
desolate wasteland to the very place where the sickness began. I can
only hope that the answers that await me are enough to save us all . . .
before it's too late. (Goodreads)
A few months ago I had the pleasure of reading Darkness Before Dawn, and I really enjoyed it so much more than I was expecting to. I'm so super excited for the second novel in this series to be released. Judging from the summary, it sounds just as good as the first book! I can't wait!
