I've seen him on the news. Followed the stories about what happened in Ohio. John Smith, out there, on the run. To the world, he's a mystery. But to me . . . he's one of us.

Nine of us came here, but sometimes I wonder if time has changed us—if we all still believe in our mission. How can I know? There are six of us left. We're hiding, blending in, avoiding contact with one another . . . but our Legacies are developing, and soon we'll be equipped to fight. Is John Number Four, and is his appearance the sign I've been waiting for? And what about Number Five and Six? Could one of them be the raven-haired girl with the stormy eyes from my dreams? The girl with powers that are beyond anything I could ever imagine? The girl who may be strong enough to bring the six of us together?

They caught Number One in Malaysia.
Number Two in England.
And Number Three in Kenya.
They tried to catch Number Four in Ohio—and failed.

I am Number Seven. One of six still alive.

And I'm ready to fight. (Goodreads)
I finally found time to read The Power of Six, the sequel to I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore, which I read and reviewed last year for the blog.  I found the book to be an interesting sequel to the series!

The book is told from two different points of view; through John, who we met in the previous book, and also through Marina, who we come to find out is Number 7.  I found Marina to be a refreshing character, she was very determined to figure out her past, and to survive her future. I did feel bad for her that her Cepan had kind of given up on her duties, and that she wasn’t as well trained as John was by his Cepan. She does, however, hold her own when she needs to.  We are also introduced to another member of the Garde, but you’ll need to read the book to find out exactly who it is!

I still find Six to be a very fascinating character.  She’s definitely a kick-butt character, and those are my favorite kinds. But we also get to see a somewhat different side to her in this book as well.  Six is definitely my favorite character in this series. I love that we get to find out her real name as well, it’s not one that you would expect from her!  John, and his best friend Sam, are much the same as they are in the previous book. Poor John, he seems like one big mass of confusion through most of the book. I just wanted to give him a hug!

The storyline for this book is much the same as the previous book. The kids are still on the run from the Mogs, as well as the FBI and police, and are trying to find the rest of the members of the Garde. I love that we are given parts of the back story as well. We were able to get a better idea as to how the kids came to our planet, and how they survived when they first arrived.

Overall, I have really enjoyed the books in the series so far. I’m really looking forward to starting the next book in the series, so see what adventures we are taken on next.

Happy Reading!

  2. I haven't even read the first one in this series, but I am excited to eventually start them. I have seen the movie, however, and thought it was ok.

Sounds like the book could be better! I love the sound of Six and how awesome she is.

    Great review!

  3. Glad you enjoyed this one Christy :) !! I saw the movie adaptation of the first book but I really didn't like it so I don't want to read the book series that much because of it ...

  4. I've only read the first one but it's definitely of the "brain cotton candy" genre--nothing wrong with that, right? I had some students that absolutely adored it and passed it around their little cadre of geeky gamers. Loved that. Good to hear the new one is still enjoyable!

  5. I liked Power of Six, but the ending made me so angry - in a good way. I just wanted to know what happens next, which is why I look forward to reading The Rise of Nine!

  6. I just finished reading all three -- I definitely recommend getting your hands on Rise of Nine. Personally, it was my favorite of the series so far. For some reason I thought this was a trilogy, but I now know there's at least one more book left!

  8. I'm glad you enjoyed this. I loved it A LOT, which was surprising since the first book was just average for me. I've got the third book in my TBR and I can't wait to pick it up! I'm sort of beginning to love these characters ;) Great review!
