He was lost and alone. Then he found her.
And the future seemed more fragile than ever.

As a child, Landon Lucas Maxfield believed his life was perfect and looked forward to a future filled with promise — until tragedy tore his family apart and made him doubt everything he ever believed.

All he wanted was to leave the past behind. When he met Jacqueline Wallace, his desire to be everything she needed came so easy…

As easy as it could be for a man who learned that the soul is breakable and that everything you hoped for could be ripped away in a heartbeat. (Goodreads)
The first thing you should know before starting this book is that Breakable not a sequel, but is more of a companion novel to Easy. In this book we get to see Lucas’ side of the events that happened in Easy, but we also get to see the person that he was before he met Jacqueline, when he was Landon Lucas Maxfield, a young boy who suffered a tragic event that changed his world forever.

I fell in love with Landon Lucas Maxfield when I first met him in Easy. He was such a mysterious and complex character. While we did get some of his back story in the Easy, we didn’t know everything that had happened in his past, and how he became Lucas. Landon’s story is, at times, truly heartbreaking.  We get to see all the events that happened in his childhood and teenage years, and it was interesting to see how completely different he was during this time. All of the events in this past and everything that happened to him definitely shaped him into the Lucas that we love so much, and honestly, I’m so glad that he changed for the better.

I know a lot of people really aren’t fond of books where the story is the same as a previous book, just told from a different character. That really isn’t the case for this story. While we doing get to see Lucas’ viewpoint on some of the things that happened in Easy, it still felt different than what we saw from Jacqueline in Easy. When we ‘see’ Lucas from Jacqueline’s eyes in Easy, he seemed like such a mysterious, tattooed bad boy, but once we see the story through his eyes, we realize how much more there is to him. I really enjoyed seeing this side of him.

While Breakable can be read as a standalone novel, I definitely recommend reading Easy first.  It definitely made reading parts of Breakable even more special to me.

Overall; I really enjoyed reading this book! If you’ve already read and loved Easy, I definitely recommend that you check out Breakable. If you haven’t read this series yet, and are a fan of New Adult Contemporary novels, I totally recommend you adding this to your reading list today!

Also in this series:
