Friday Hops 4/27

Follow Friday! #54

Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee & Alison Can Read. It's a great way to meet new blogger friends!

Q: Have you had a character that disappointed you? One that you fell in love with and then "broke up" with later on in either the series or a stand-alone book? Tell us about him or her.

A. Yes! I have had quite a few characters disappoint me. Most recently, it was Aspen in The Selection. I really liked him in the beginning of the book, and steadily fell out of love with him by the end of the book.  Check out my review if you want to know why this happened. I don't want to ruin it for anyone!

TGIF at GReads #21

TGIF at GReads is a Friday Feature hosted by Ginger at GReadsBooks.com!

Reading Blues: We all get them from time to time. What helps you overcome those reading slumps when nothing seems to grab your attention?

Sometimes when I have the reading blues, I go in search of a book that's outside my reading box. Recently I did this with a sci-fi book, which I loved, and it really got me hooked back into reading.

Sometimes, I need to watch a movie. For some reason that always helps me get back into reading as well. I guess it's because I don't want many movies. lol!

Thanks for stopping by everyone! Please leave a comment with your link so I can follow you back!

  3. Ugh...Aspen. Haha. I felt the same way about him.

I think reading out of your comfort zone totally helps.

    Have a fantastic weekend!

  4. Oh yes! Aspen, I liked him in the beginning too...but in the end he was all like skeevy -- and I kept yelling at him in my head!

  5. Switching genres would definitely keep things more exciting an you might find a book/genre you love that you might not have otherwise!

    Have a great weekend!

  6. Oh no, I'm dying to read The Selection! I want to like everyone! But I guess that wouldn't be that interesting, would it?

I already follow you, but here's my FF post. I'd love if you'd check it out!

  9. Hehe I appreciate you not spoiling in your FF. Though I don't foresee when I'll be able to read that book.

    Have a great weekend!

  12. Oh yes! Aspen is a good choice!! I started loving him, then I was confused and appaled and then I was again confused with him!

And I also do switch genres when I'm feeling the blues! :)

    Happy Friday!

  13. Ahhh thanks for not spoiling it! I'm hoping to read The Selection in the next week or so and I'm SUPER excited. Is Aspen the character Ethan Peck is playing? I can never remember (I suppose its because I don't know the characters yet haha).

As for reading slumps, watching a movie (or TV) does help, oddly! I think it's something about getting stories still even though you're not reading.

    Happy friday!

  14. I haven't read The Selection yet, but I plan to. Wonder if I feel the same way. As for your TGIF answer. Wow! I do the exact opposite most of the times. Maybe I should try and read something I usually wouldn't, too!

  15. I'm excited to read The Selection but I'm bummed you ended up not liking Aspen. I do the same thing with books and I'll pick up something way different to read and that usually helps get me out of the slump.

  16. Haven't read that book, but am seeing it a lot!

I don't really get the reading blues too much. I usually force myself to stop so I can be "social". :)

  19. I couldn't really think of any specific character that I fell out of love with. Though I can think of plenty that I didn't like and then ended up liking or at least rooting for by the end.

I was in a pretty bad reading/blogging slump recently. Some of it was due to life issues, though. I just took some time off, and after a bit I really missed blogging. Now I've learned not to let it feel like a job instead of a hobby, and I enjoy it again. Same with reading.

  20. I haven't read The Selection yet but I have a feeling I will be the same way. Aspen sounds like the cute first love underdog which I usually love but then I heard he becomes sexist and mean and that Prince Maxon takes the shine. I'll be sad :-( lol

  22. I HATE the reading blues. It seems to come in waves, too, where I won't like a bunch of books and end up DNF-ing them before I finally settle on one. I should try the switching to a genre I don't usually read--that might cleanse the palette.

  23. I haven't read the selection yet. But that's a great way to get out of a reading slump. My genre is high fantasy. they always get me in a better mood for reading again!

  26. There are actually quite a lot of characters that I "broke up" with :P. I'm kind of fussy with characters. Haven't read The Selection yet, but I'm definitely going to me more cautious about this Aspen person now!

    Have a great weekend :).

  28. I haven't read The Selection yet. Thanks for the heads up! :)

I really, strongly dislike the reading blues. I also tend to switch genres and try reading something out of my usual to get myself back in the reading mood.

  29. The Selection is on my 'to read' list, I'm looking forward to seeing if I think the same about that character. About the reading blues, I've had that for the last several books! They've been good, but nothing really exceptional. I really need a book I can get excited about very soon!

  31. Oh really, Aspen? I just finished The Selection a new hours ago and I'm totally Team Aspen. I loved him in the beginning, then got a bit uncertain about him. But in the end, he came back and I loved that!
