Bestselling author of the Wicked Lovely books Melissa Marr’s first contemporary YA novel is a twisted southern gothic tale of obsession, romance, and murder. A killer is obsessed with Eva Tilling. Can she stop him, or will he claim her?

When Eva Tilling wakes up in the hospital, she’s confused—who in her sleepy little North Carolina town could have hit her with their car? And why? But before she can consider the question, she finds that she’s awoken with a strange new skill: the ability to foresee people’s deaths when they touch her. While she is recovering from the hit-and-run, Nate, an old flame, reappears, and the two must traverse their rocky past as they figure out how to use Eva’s power to keep her friends—and themselves—alive. But while Eva and Nate grow closer, the killer grows increasingly frantic in his attempt to get to Eva.

For the first time, New York Times bestselling author Melissa Marr has applied her extraordinary talent to contemporary realism. Chilling twists, unrequited obsession, and high-stakes romance drive this Gothic, racy thriller—a story of small-town oppression and salvation. Melissa’s fans, and every YA reader, will find its wild ride enthralling. (Goodreads)
I was super excited when I heard that Melissa Marr was coming out with her first contemporary YA novel. I had read Marr’s ‘Wicked Lovely’ series in the past and had really enjoyed it, so I was looking forward to seeing what contemporary story she had up with. I definitely was not disappointed when reading this creepy thriller!

After being hit by a car one evening, Eva wakes up in the hospital confused, with little memory of what happened to her. She also discovers that she awoke with an ability to see people’s death whenever people touch her. Is this just a side effect of her brain injury, or something more? When her schoolmates start turning up murdered, Eva realizes that her gift is exactly what she needs to use to help track down this killer, and stop more innocent murders.

Eva was a really interesting character. I sympathized with her for everything that she had been through, it couldn’t have been easy. But with the help of her friend Grace and a friendship rekindled with her old friend Nate, she manages to learn to cope with everything that happens. She’s a very determined character, and I liked that about her. Her friendship with Grace was awesome, and the romance between her and Nate was super cute as well.

The story is told from alternate viewpoints, but mostly through Eva’s character. I always think that the multiple viewpoints are interesting because it always feels like we are getting more insight not only about the story, but about the different characters as well. It’s always interesting to get inside the characters heads for a while.

The storyline for this novel was super creepy, and left me feeling more than a little paranoid after I closed the book. And, despite the slight paranormal feel to the book, it felt very realistic. It also definitely kept me guessing on who the bad guy was throughout the story as well.

Overall; I really enjoyed reading Made For You! I’m really looking forward to seeing what story Mrs. Marr comes up with next.

  1. I agree! This book had me guessing for awhile and a bit creeped out. I liked the whole psychological thriller aspect to the novel and how there were some chapters dedicated to Judge's point of view---so creepy! I'm glad you enjoyed this one, too. Great review!

  3. Yay I'm excited for this one! I like Marr's writing, I just wasn't too impressed with Wicked Lovely (love triangles and all that) .

Eva sounds like a likeable character and I can't wait to see how her and Nate's love blossoms (I'm a sucker for cute couples).
