Alice doesn’t believe in luck—at least, not the good kind. But she does believe in love, and for some time now, she’s been pining for her best friend, Teddy. On his eighteenth birthday—just when it seems they might be on the brink of something—she buys him a lottery ticket on a lark. To their astonishment, he wins $140 million, and in an instant, everything changes.

At first, it seems like a dream come true, especially since the two of them are no strangers to misfortune. As a kid, Alice won the worst kind of lottery possible when her parents died just over a year apart from each other. And Teddy’s father abandoned his family not long after that, leaving them to grapple with his gambling debts. Through it all, Teddy and Alice have leaned on each other. But now, as they negotiate the ripple effects of Teddy’s newfound wealth, a gulf opens between them. And soon, the money starts to feel like more of a curse than a windfall.

As they try to find their way back to each other, Alice learns more about herself than she ever could have imagined . . . and about the unexpected ways in which luck and love sometimes intersect. (Goodreads)

My Thoughts...

I can't even begin to tell you how super excited I was to finally start Windfall by Jennifer E. Smith. I have read two of her previous books in the past, and really enjoyed them, and I have a few more sitting on my shelf, just waiting for me to start them. As soon as I discovered Windfall , I knew I had to have it! Now that I've read it, I can tell you it is definitely a welcome addition to my growing collection!

As most of you probably  know, I'm a huge fan of contemporary novels, and I tend to read them a lot faster than most other books. This book was no exception! I read all 400+ pages in just a few hours time, and I loved every minute of it. Windfall seriously gave me all the feelings all I flew through the pages. The storyline is completely engrossing, and it's not only about teenagers winning the lottery, it's about finding yourself, and the things that really matter in life. And I love that.

I also really love so many characters in the story, including the two main characters, Alice and Teddy. Both have been through so much in their young lives, but they've had each other through it all. And they both have pretty amazing family members in their lives as well, including Alice's cousin and Teddy's best friend, Leo, who I love, and Leo's parents and Teddy's mom is great as well. So much love for and from all these people. These characters were all so great.

Overall; I really loved so much about Windfall; the storyline, the characters, EVERYTHING. It gave me all the feels, and these are the types of books that I just can't get enough of! I can't wait for the copy I preordered to arrive in May to add to my collection, and I'm now even more excited to read the rest of Jennifer's books that I haven't read yet! Get your copy of Windfall in stores and online on May 2nd, or preorder your copy today!!

  1. Great review! This certainly sounds like an interesting premise! I've watched too many of those tv shows about lottery winnners who are cursed lol I haven't been doing a lot of reading in contemporary so I might have to give this one a try in May!
