The Body Finder - Kimberly Derting

The Body Finder
Author: Kimberly Derting
Release Date: March 16th 2010
Publisher: HarperCollins/ HarperTeen
Pages: 336
Age Range: Young Adult
IBSN:0061779814
ISBN13: 9780061779817

Goodreads:
Violet Ambrose is grappling with two major issues: Jay Heaton and her morbid secret ability. While the sixteen-year-old is confused by her new feelings for her best friend since childhood, she is more disturbed by her "power" to sense dead bodies—or at least those that have been murdered. Since she was a little girl, she has felt the echoes the dead leave behind in the world . . . and the imprints that attach to their killers.

Violet has never considered her strange talent to be a gift; it mostly just led her to find dead birds her cat left for her. But now that a serial killer is terrorizing her small town, and the echoes of the local girls he's claimed haunt her daily, Violet realizes she might be the only person who can stop him.

Despite his fierce protectiveness over her, Jay reluctantly agrees to help Violet find the murderer—and Violet is unnerved by her hope that Jay's intentions are much more than friendly. But even as she's falling intensely in love, Violet is getting closer and closer to discovering a killer . . . and becoming his prey herself.

My Review:
Wow, I really can't believe I didn't read this sooner. This was a really great read!! I would have finished this book a lot sooner if I hadn't been so busy, but when I actually did have time to read, I flew through this book!

I love the main characters, Violet and Jay. I really enjoyed watching their relationship change from just friends to more. It was sweet, and they are such a cute couple.(Jay is awesome!) I also liked Violet's friends. They were so witty and fun. And her family was great as well. They really cared for her, which is great.

The bad guys were just Creepy!! Reading the parts where we're in the killer's mind more than freaked me out. Seriously.Parinoid!

The Body Finder was a really great read. I was absolutely captivated, and couldn't put the book down when I was able to read. I'm looking forward to reading Desires of the Dead now!
4.5 Stars!!

This week I am cover crazy about...
Darkest Mercy
Author: Melissa Marr

All of the cover's in this series are gorgeous, but this one is definitely my favorite.

The flower is gorgeous, and I love the glitter effect is has to it. The girl in the background is pretty gorgeous too, what we can see of her anyways. And the purple hue to the whole cover really sets it off.

I also like the way the vine around the title. I love stuff like that, and it really makes the title stand out for me as well.

It's a gorgeous cover!

Thanks for stopping by! What are you cover crazy about this week?? Leave your link in the comments so I can visit you. :) Happy Monday!

Angel Burn by L.A. Weatherly

Angel Burn
Author: L.A. Weatherly
Release Date: May 24th 2011
Publisher: CandleWick Press
Pages: 403
Age Range: Young Adult
IBSN:0763656526
ISBN13: 9780763656522

Goodreads:
Willow knows she’s different from other girls, and not just because she loves tinkering with cars. Willow has a gift. She can look into the future and know people’s dreams and hopes, their sorrows and regrets, just by touching them. She has no idea where this power comes from. But the assassin, Alex, does. Gorgeous, mysterious Alex knows more about Willow than Willow herself. He knows that her powers link to dark and dangerous forces, and that he’s one of the few humans left who can fight them. When Alex finds himself falling in love with his sworn enemy, he discovers that nothing is as it seems, least of all good and evil. In the first book in an action-packed, romantic trilogy, L..A. Weatherly sends readers on a thrill-ride of a road trip — and depicts the human race at the brink of a future as catastrophic as it is deceptively beautiful.
My Review:
Willow is blonde, beautiful and 16. She's nowhere near you average teenage girl though. Besides her love of mechanics, she also has a gift. She has the ability to know a person’s past and future with just a touch. She doesn't know why she has this gift, only that it's there. Alex is an Angel Killer. He has been trained to see the angels' for what they really are, evil. He and his fellow Angel Killers travel around the country to kill these Angels in an attempt to stop them from destroying human life. When he's sent to 'take care of' Willow, he sees that she's not like other angels, and that something just isn't right. Vowing to protect Willow at whatever costs, they race across the country to New Mexico in hopes of finding fellow Angel Killers, so they can save the world. The last thing they expect is to fall in love along the way.

Angel Burn is an absolutely fabulous book! I don't have much experience with angel books yet, so this book was something totally new for me. The plot was well thought out, and absolutely wonderful. I was kept guessing, in suspense, right up until the end. Full of surprises, action and a quite a bit of romance, Angel Burn will leave you hooked, and wanting more!

The main characters in the story are well developed. I really like Willow. She's kind natured and strong willed. I love that she likes to work on cars. That totally sounds like me when I was that age. She loves her mom more than anything, and cares about her friends and the people around her more than she probably should. (I didn't really care for her BFF in this book.) I really liked Willow, and was rooting for her the whole time. Alex is strong and determined, smart and really totally hot. (Strong, silent type. My fave!) He's determined to rid the world of the angels'. Towards the middle of the book we get to see a softer side of him. I really enjoyed their interactions, and watching their relationship grow.

The angels' are the bad guys. Their world is dying, and there are no resources there to keep them alive. So they come to earth, and steal the life force from humans. This feeding is called Angel Burn, and it can be deadly to humans. I can't even imagine what the world would be like if this really happened. Scary!

Overall, this book was a really great read. Different than a lot of books out there, and that's just what I needed! I can't to read the second book in the trilogy!

A HUGE thank you to Candlewick Press and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review Angel Burn!

Sunday Confessions (4) What do you do when you're not reading?

"Sunday Confessions is a weekly meme started by Marcie at To Read or Not to Read, as a way to get to share a bit about herself and also learning more about me and you. Sometimes its about books and book related topics and sometimes it's not. This is all in good fun and I would love it if you would participate.

"This week's question:
What do you do when you're not reading?

When I'm not reading and working on the blog, I'm usually taking care of my family. I have three kids, and a hubby who I enjoy spending as much time as possible with. Otherwise, if I'm not reading, or blogging, or taking care of everyone, I'm usually doing CHORES. :)

So, what do you do when you're not reading???

Waiting on Wednesday #4 - The Gathering

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week, I am anxiously waiting on:

The Gathering
Darkness Rising #1
Author: Kelley Armstrong
Release Date: April 12th 2011
Publisher: HarperCollins
Pages: 368
Age Range: Young Adult
ISBN-13: 9780061797026
ISBN: 0061797022

Goodreads:
Strange things are happening in Maya's tiny Vancouver Island town. First, her friend Serena, the captain of the swim team, drowns mysteriously in the middle of a calm lake. Then, one year later, mountain lions are spotted rather frequently around Maya's home—and her reactions to them are somewhat . . . unexpected. Her best friend, Daniel, has also been experiencing unexplainable premonitions about certain people and situations.
It doesn't help that the new bad boy in town, Rafe, has a dangerous secret, and he's interested in one special part of Maya's anatomy—her paw-print birthmark.

Why am I 'Waiting On' this book?? Well, if you have read the Darkest Powers series (The Summoning, The Awakening, and The Reckoning), then you totally know why I'm so excited for this book to be released. That series was AWESOME, definitley in my top 3 favorite series. I love the characters, the story, and whole paranormal world that Mrs. Armstrong created. Seriously, if you haven't checked this series out, DO IT! NOW! And then let me know what you think of it. :)

The Darkest Rising series is a spin-off of the Darkest Powers series. I am so, so, so excited about this book coming out. I'm counting down the days until April 12th!

What's on your wishlist?? Leave a comment with your link so I can see what you're waiting on!

"Multihued light radiated up from beneath the water, centered among the reeds, and then diffusing outward as it reached the surface. Violet had never seen anything like it, and she knew that the spectrum of light was defying its very nature by behaving in that way.

It could only be one thing. There was something dead down there
."

Sleeping Beauty: Vampire Slayer

Sleeping Beauty: Vampire Slayer
(Twisted Tales series)
Author: Maureen McGowan
Release Date: April 1st 2011
Publisher: Silver Dolphin Books
Pages: 320
ISBN-13: 9781607102564
ISBN: 1607102560

Goodreads:
In this thrilling story full of adventure and romance, Sleeping Beauty is more than just a lonely princess waiting for her prince—she's a brave, tenacious girl who never backs down from a challenge. With vampire-slaying talents that she practices in secret, Sleeping Beauty puts her courage to the test in the dark of night, fighting evil as she searches for a way to break the spell that has cut her off from her family. In a special twist, readers have the opportunity to make key decisions for Sleeping Beauty and decide where she goes next—but no matter the choice; the result is a story unlike any fairy tale you've ever read!Sleeping Beauty: Vampire Slayer is an entirely new type of fairy tale–one that will keep today's kids guessing and offer them hours of magical fun.

My Review:
Sleeping Beauty: Vampire Slayer is a retelling of Sleeping Beauty. But it's nowhere near the same Sleeping Beauty you remember from your childhood. This telling has vampires and slayers, and a lot more action! This book also lets you chose your own adventure, which is a lot of fun!

Princess Lucette, aka Sleeping Beauty, was cursed by the evil Natasha, Queen of Sanguina, the Vampire Queen, when she was just a baby. If the princess is ever to prick her finger, the curse will make her sleep during the day, and be the only one in her kingdom awake at night. All of the villagers in her kingdom are also affected by the curse, and will sleep all through the night, only waking the next morning. Since the vampires from Sanguina are awake only at night, this poses a huge problem, as there will be no one awake at night to protect the princess. The princess has to learn to defend herself, and her kingdom. Only true love will break the curse, but how in the world can she meet guys at night, when everyone else is asleep?? Read the book and chose your own adventure to find out!

This book was so cute. I really enjoyed following the main character, Lucette. She really was a brave, determined girl. She wanted to be a slayer so bad, and she went after it. She also cared for people, even the bad people, and was compassionate. There is also a love triangle in the book. I won't go into that too much because I don't want to spoil it, but I enjoyed reading about it also. I also enjoyed reading about the king and queen. I'm definitely going to have to purchase this book for my daughter. I think she will really enjoy it! I know I did. :)

Thank you to NetGalley, Silver Dolphin Books and Mrs. McGowan for allowing me to read and review this book! Happy Reading!
