Follow Friday (5) & Book Blogger Hop (4)

Follow Friday!
TGIF!!! Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee. It's a great way to meet new blogger friends!

This weeks question is:

Q. Just like Ashley said (love it) "Ashley the girl..." who are You the Boy/Girl, instead of You the Blogger?

I'm Christy. I'm 30, married to a great man, mom to three kids, and 3 furbabies. I love to read, and I started this blog so I could talk to other people that have the same book obsession as myself. When I'm not reading and blogging, taking care of the family and helping out at school, I design greeting cards. :)

Book Blogger Hop!!

Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme hosted by
Crazy-For-Books.com. It's a great way to meet new people and friends around the blogworld!

Today's question is:

"If I gave you £50 (or $80) and sent you into a bookshop right now, what would be in your basket when you finally staggered to the till?"

First I would pre-order:
-City of Fallen Angels
-Passion
-The Gathering
-Entwined
-Where She Went

Released-
-A Touch Mortal
-Demonglass
-Cloaked

What would you buy??? And WHO ARE YOU??? Leave a link to your blog in the comments so I can check it out! Oh, and Welcome to any new followers! I follow back. :)

Review: The Goddess Test by Aimée Carter

The Goddess Test
Author: Aimée Carter
Release Date: April 19th 2011
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Pages: 297

Goodreads:
Every girl who has taken the test has died. Now it's Kate's turn.

It's always been just Kate and her mom--and now her mother is dying. Her last wish? To move back to her childhood home. So Kate's going to start at a new school with no friends, no other family and the fear her mother won't live past the fall.

Then she meets Henry. Dark. Tortured. And mesmerizing. He claims to be Hades, god of the Underworld--and if she accepts his bargain, he'll
keep her mother alive while Kate tries to pass seven tests.

Kate is sure he's crazy--until she sees him bring a girl back from the dead. Now saving her mother seems crazily possible. If she succeeds, she'll become Henry's future bride, and a goddess. If she fails...

My Review:

The Goddess Test was an absolutely delightful read. The story is based around the Greek myth of Persephone. (Persephone was abducted by Hades, and forced to be Queen of the Underworld. A quite fascinating myth, should you ever want to read it.) I love books on Greek Mythology, and I was really intrigued by this book.

Kate’s mother is dying of cancer, and she wants to move back to her hometown, Eden. Kate is 18, and had to quit her senior year of school to take care of her mom. When they move to Eden, Kate starts at a new school, where she doesn’t know anyone. After a tragic prank gone wrong with one of her schoolmates, she meets Henry, who promises to make all her problems go away, if she will make a deal with him. The deal is to pass seven tests, and if she passes this test, she will become his bride for the rest of eternity, and rule the Underworld alongside him.

Kate is our Leading Lady. I really liked her. She is a very strong and determined character. She really loved her mom, who is dying from cancer, and the friends she barely know. She was willing to make huge sacrifices for other people, and again, some she barely knew. She really cared for these people. She’s also smart and brave. Her relationship with her mom was really touching.

Henry, our main man, is not exactly what I pictured in the role of Hades. People did fear him, yes. But he was really sweet and caring towards Kate. I love how his feelings slowly came out in the book. I enjoyed reading more about him as I went through the book. Although he was supposed to be a bad guy in the beginning, you could tell a part of him really cared. I loved him, and I felt bad for him as well. He was so very sad.

I enjoyed all of the other characters as well. (There are way too many to list!)

I really enjoyed reading all the mythology in this book. I especially enjoyed reading about the gods. There were quite a few twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. The writing, the setting, the plot… it was fascinating. I’m anxiously waiting the second book in the series!

Thank you to HarlequinTeen and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this Advance Reader’s Copy! I enjoyed it, and look forward to purchasing the book when it is released in April!

Waiting on Wednesday #5 - Where She Went

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week, I am waiting on:
Where She Went
(If I Stay #2)
Author: Gayle Forman
Release Date: April 5th 2011
Publisher: Penguin Group

ISBN-13: 9780525422945
ISBN: 0525422943

GoodReads:
It's been three years since the devastating accident ... three years since Mia walked out of Adam's life forever.
Now living on opposite coasts, Mia is Julliard's rising star and Adam is LA tabloid fodder, thanks to his new rock star status and celebrity girlfriend. When Adam gets stuck in New York by himself, chance brings the couple together again, for one last night. As they explore the city that has become Mia's home, Adam and Mia revisit the past and open their hearts to the future - and each other.
Told from Adam's point of view in the spare, lyrical prose that defined If I Stay, Where She Went explores the devastation of grief, the promise of new hope, and the flame of rekindled romance.

Teaser Tuesday (3) The Dark Divine

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

•Grab your current read
•Open to a random page
•Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page. BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
•Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week's teaser is from...
The Dark Divine
by Bree Dispain

"Jude was good. But he let his fear and jealousy get to him."

Daniel shrugged. "Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to the dark side."

I totally wouldn't even know that the last sentence meant, if my husband wasn't such a huge Star Wars fan. :)

I can't wait to get lost in this book!

What's your teaser for this week?? Leave your link in the comment section so I can come visit you! Thanks for stopping by. :)

The Body Finder - Kimberly Derting

The Body Finder
Author: Kimberly Derting
Release Date: March 16th 2010
Publisher: HarperCollins/ HarperTeen
Pages: 336
Age Range: Young Adult
IBSN:0061779814
ISBN13: 9780061779817

Goodreads:
Violet Ambrose is grappling with two major issues: Jay Heaton and her morbid secret ability. While the sixteen-year-old is confused by her new feelings for her best friend since childhood, she is more disturbed by her "power" to sense dead bodies—or at least those that have been murdered. Since she was a little girl, she has felt the echoes the dead leave behind in the world . . . and the imprints that attach to their killers.

Violet has never considered her strange talent to be a gift; it mostly just led her to find dead birds her cat left for her. But now that a serial killer is terrorizing her small town, and the echoes of the local girls he's claimed haunt her daily, Violet realizes she might be the only person who can stop him.

Despite his fierce protectiveness over her, Jay reluctantly agrees to help Violet find the murderer—and Violet is unnerved by her hope that Jay's intentions are much more than friendly. But even as she's falling intensely in love, Violet is getting closer and closer to discovering a killer . . . and becoming his prey herself.

My Review:
Wow, I really can't believe I didn't read this sooner. This was a really great read!! I would have finished this book a lot sooner if I hadn't been so busy, but when I actually did have time to read, I flew through this book!

I love the main characters, Violet and Jay. I really enjoyed watching their relationship change from just friends to more. It was sweet, and they are such a cute couple.(Jay is awesome!) I also liked Violet's friends. They were so witty and fun. And her family was great as well. They really cared for her, which is great.

The bad guys were just Creepy!! Reading the parts where we're in the killer's mind more than freaked me out. Seriously.Parinoid!

The Body Finder was a really great read. I was absolutely captivated, and couldn't put the book down when I was able to read. I'm looking forward to reading Desires of the Dead now!
4.5 Stars!!

Did you love this book??? Leave me a comment and let me know what you thought of it!

Cover Crazy was created by The Book Worms. For all the information about creating your own Cover Crazy post, click here.

This week I am cover crazy about...
Darkest Mercy
Author: Melissa Marr

All of the cover's in this series are gorgeous, but this one is definitely my favorite.

The flower is gorgeous, and I love the glitter effect is has to it. The girl in the background is pretty gorgeous too, what we can see of her anyways. And the purple hue to the whole cover really sets it off.

I also like the way the vine around the title. I love stuff like that, and it really makes the title stand out for me as well.

It's a gorgeous cover!

Thanks for stopping by! What are you cover crazy about this week?? Leave your link in the comments so I can visit you. :) Happy Monday!

Angel Burn by L.A. Weatherly

Angel Burn
Author: L.A. Weatherly
Release Date: May 24th 2011
Publisher: CandleWick Press
Pages: 403
Age Range: Young Adult
IBSN:0763656526
ISBN13: 9780763656522

Goodreads:
Willow knows she’s different from other girls, and not just because she loves tinkering with cars. Willow has a gift. She can look into the future and know people’s dreams and hopes, their sorrows and regrets, just by touching them. She has no idea where this power comes from. But the assassin, Alex, does. Gorgeous, mysterious Alex knows more about Willow than Willow herself. He knows that her powers link to dark and dangerous forces, and that he’s one of the few humans left who can fight them. When Alex finds himself falling in love with his sworn enemy, he discovers that nothing is as it seems, least of all good and evil. In the first book in an action-packed, romantic trilogy, L..A. Weatherly sends readers on a thrill-ride of a road trip — and depicts the human race at the brink of a future as catastrophic as it is deceptively beautiful.
My Review:
Willow is blonde, beautiful and 16. She's nowhere near you average teenage girl though. Besides her love of mechanics, she also has a gift. She has the ability to know a person’s past and future with just a touch. She doesn't know why she has this gift, only that it's there. Alex is an Angel Killer. He has been trained to see the angels' for what they really are, evil. He and his fellow Angel Killers travel around the country to kill these Angels in an attempt to stop them from destroying human life. When he's sent to 'take care of' Willow, he sees that she's not like other angels, and that something just isn't right. Vowing to protect Willow at whatever costs, they race across the country to New Mexico in hopes of finding fellow Angel Killers, so they can save the world. The last thing they expect is to fall in love along the way.

Angel Burn is an absolutely fabulous book! I don't have much experience with angel books yet, so this book was something totally new for me. The plot was well thought out, and absolutely wonderful. I was kept guessing, in suspense, right up until the end. Full of surprises, action and a quite a bit of romance, Angel Burn will leave you hooked, and wanting more!

The main characters in the story are well developed. I really like Willow. She's kind natured and strong willed. I love that she likes to work on cars. That totally sounds like me when I was that age. She loves her mom more than anything, and cares about her friends and the people around her more than she probably should. (I didn't really care for her BFF in this book.) I really liked Willow, and was rooting for her the whole time. Alex is strong and determined, smart and really totally hot. (Strong, silent type. My fave!) He's determined to rid the world of the angels'. Towards the middle of the book we get to see a softer side of him. I really enjoyed their interactions, and watching their relationship grow.

The angels' are the bad guys. Their world is dying, and there are no resources there to keep them alive. So they come to earth, and steal the life force from humans. This feeding is called Angel Burn, and it can be deadly to humans. I can't even imagine what the world would be like if this really happened. Scary!

Overall, this book was a really great read. Different than a lot of books out there, and that's just what I needed! I can't to read the second book in the trilogy!

A HUGE thank you to Candlewick Press and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review Angel Burn!

Sunday Confessions (4) What do you do when you're not reading?

"Sunday Confessions is a weekly meme started by Marcie at To Read or Not to Read, as a way to get to share a bit about herself and also learning more about me and you. Sometimes its about books and book related topics and sometimes it's not. This is all in good fun and I would love it if you would participate.

"This week's question:
What do you do when you're not reading?

When I'm not reading and working on the blog, I'm usually taking care of my family. I have three kids, and a hubby who I enjoy spending as much time as possible with. Otherwise, if I'm not reading, or blogging, or taking care of everyone, I'm usually doing CHORES. :)

So, what do you do when you're not reading???
