"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
This week, I am waiting on:
Dear Bully
by Megan Kelley Hall & Carrie Jones
Release Date: August 23rd, 2011
Publisher: HarperCollins (HarperTeen)
Available for Pre-Order at:
B&N | Amazon | Borders | BAM | HarperTeen | The Book Depository
Why am I waiting on this book??
Bullying is a huge problem, and it is becoming worse everyday. I thought it was bad when I was in school, but I see how bad it is now, and it just makes me very sad. Actually, it makes me sad, and very angry. Angry for the children that are bullied to no end. Angry when I hear "It's just a phase", or "right of passage". Angry when parents and school officials make it out to not be a big deal, when it is.
I just recently found out about Dear Bully, and I automatically added it to my list of books to buy. I think it's important for children to know that THEY ARE NOT ALONE! That there are people out there that have been in the same situation. That there are people out there to help. And these bullies need to walk a mile in their victims shoes, if only for one day, so they can see the consequences of their actions.
I am really looking forward to reading this, and sharing it with my daughter. Books like these are the reason I love YA writers. YAsaves!
Wow, that was a long ramble! If you made it this far, let me know what you are WOWing for this week!
And don't forget to add Dear Bully to your reading list!

Thanks for bringing attention to our book. I know that you and your readers will find it an incredibly powerful read. During the editing process, I had to stop several times to catch my breath -- that's how amazingly real and powerful these true accounts of bullying are. And they are shared by all of your favorite authors. When Carrie Jones and I set out to do this book after creating Young Adult Authors Against Bullying on Facebook (check it out here: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_105581906147904&ap=1 and here: www.facebook.com/dearbully), we had no idea how many very well-known and respected YA authors had been bullied or had a special person in their life who was bullied. Thank you so much for blogging about this book. For more up-to-date info on our book, check out www.dearbully.com. Thanks so much!!!

I just heard about this book this week from The Story Siren's IMM, looks like a very powerful book. I'm not sure if I would ever be able to read it, Disney movies make me bawl my eyes out. But it will definitely be something that I'll pick up to donate to school libraries. I wish something like this had been written sooner.

I am so happy that something like this is being published. It's important, especially in our current society to have something like this for everyone to read. Great pick... off to add it to my ever growing TBR list.
ReplyDeleteBullying is a problem at my middle school too. This seems like a really incredible book. Thanks for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard of this book prior to your post. It sounds like it is going to be quite an emotional read...my heart breaks for people who have been or are being bullied. Thanks for showcasing this one!
ReplyDeleteThis one's definitely on my list too, really looking forward to reading it. Great pick!
ReplyDeleteHaven't heard of this one. It would be a very helpful book for middle schoolers. I don't remember bullying being so bad when I was young. There was teasing and horsing around, but nothing every serious. Sad how things take a turn for the worse.

Christy~ yes, I can remember bullying in school being a big problem when I was there almost 10 years ago, but I can see how it has gotten worse, and it makes me very glad that I'm out now! Thank goodness there are books that deal with this issue and can maybe help teens who are victims of bullying. Great pick!

This looks good!
ReplyDeleteMy Wow Post!
this is sad. I wish that kids, even adults, didn't feel it was necessary to put others down in order to feel better about themselves. Physical and verbal abuse are never ok. Thanks for sharing this!
