New York Times bestselling author Kendare Blake returns with the highly anticipated third book in the Three Dark Crowns series! And while Arsinoe, Mirabella, and Katharine all have their own scores to settle, they aren’t the only queens stirring things up on Fennbirn Island.

Queen Katharine has waited her entire life to wear the crown. But now that she finally has it, the murmurs of dissent grow louder by the day. There’s also the alarming issue of whether or not her sisters are actually dead—or if they’re waiting in the wings to usurp the throne.

Mirabella and Arsinoe are alive, but in hiding on the minland and dealing with a nightmare of their own: being visited repeatedly by a specter they think might be the fabled Blue Queen. Though she says nothing, her rotting, bony finger pointing out to sea is clear enough: return to Fennbirn.

Jules, too, is in a strange place—in disguise. And her only confidants, a war-gifted girl named Emilia and her oracle friend Mathilde, are urging her to take on a role she can’t imagine filling: a legion-cursed queen who will lead a rebel army to Katharine’s doorstep.

This is an uprising that the mysterious Blue Queen may have more to do with than anyone could have guessed—or expected. (Goodreads)

Two Dark Reigns by Kendare Blake was one of my most anticipated reads for 2018, and I was super excited to finally get my hands on this book. I re-read the first and second book, Three Dark Crowns and One Dark Throne, right before starting this new book, and I was really glad for the refresher before getting started on this third book. Now that I’ve read it, I need the next and final book in my hands ASAP!!

(I’m going to keep my thoughts for this book a little vague, as I don’t want to accidentally spoil anything for anyone... so, bear with me.)

Two Dark Reigns picks up not long after One Dark Throne leaves off, and after that intense ending in the second book, I had no idea what to expect from this new book. I really enjoyed diving back into the familiar story, and I couldn’t wait to see what was in store next for the queens and other characters in this book. I have to say that this was a very quick read, filled with lots of action that kept me flying through the pages. There are quite a few twists and turns throughout the book, and quite a few surprises as well. The characters continue to grow as the story goes along, and are all so different from when we met them in the beginning of the series. (One in particular has becoming quite terrifying.) And the ending of the book, once again, leaves you hanging and wondering what in the world will happen in the next book. (I absolutely can’t wait to find that out for myself.)

All that being said, I also want to say that while I enjoyed this new story, there was noticeably one thing missing, and it actually made a bigger impact on my reading of this story than I anticipated. (Those who have read the story know of which I am referring to.) I kept waiting for some kind of miracle to happen, but it did not, unfortunately. Sigh.

Overall, Two Dark Reigns was another great addition to this Three Dark Crowns series, and I will be absolutely pining away waiting for news on the fourth, (and final), book in this series, which is currently untitled, but set to release sometime in 2019. I absolutely can’t wait to get my hands on this book, and I plan to pre-order as soon as it’s available!! Fans of this series, I do think you’re going to like this newest addition! And if you’ve not yet read these books, do check them out soon!
