Follow Friday #10 & Book Blogger Hop #9!

Follow Friday!  TGIF!!! Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee. It's a great way to meet new blogger friends!

This weeks question is:
Q. Do you have anyone that you can discuss books with IRL? Tell us about him/her.
My mom and sister are both readers... they prefer mystery (mom) and PNR (sis). We are always chatting up about books, and going book shopping together. I do have a few friends that read as well, and we chat about books sometimes, but I think I'm the only one that is really, REALLY obsessed. lol!!  My oldest daughter is starting to read YA books, and that's been really awesome too!

Book Blogger Hop!!Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme hosted by Crazy-For-Books.com. It's a great way to meet new people and friends around the blogworld!

Today's question is:

"Pick a character from a book you are currently reading or have just finished and tell us about him/her."

I'm reading Hereafter by Tara Hudson, and it's about a girl named Amelia. (She doesn't know her last name.)  She's a ghost as well. It's pretty interesting!

Thanks for stopping by everyone! Please leave a comment with your link so I can follow you back!

Waiting on Wednesday #10 - Blood Red Road

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week, I am waiting on:
Blood Red Road
Author: Moira Young
Release Date: June 7th 2011
Publisher: Simon & Schuster

Saba has spent her whole life in Silverlake, a dried-up wasteland ravaged by constant sandstorms. The Wrecker civilization has long been destroyed, leaving only landfills for Saba and her family to scavenge from. That's fine by her, as long as her beloved twin brother Lugh is around. But when a monster sandstorm arrives, along with four cloaked horsemen, Saba's world is shattered. Lugh is captured, and Saba embarks on an epic quest to get him back.

Suddenly thrown into the lawless, ugly reality of the world outside of desolate Silverlake, Saba is lost without Lugh to guide her. So perhaps the most surprising thing of all is what Saba learns about herself: she's a fierce fighter, an unbeatable survivor, and a cunning opponent. And she has the power to take down a corrupt society from the inside. Teamed up with a handsome daredevil named Jack and a gang of girl revolutionaries called the Free Hawks, Saba stages a showdown that will change the course of her own civilization.

Blood Red Road has a searing pace, a poetically minimal writing style, violent action, and an epic love story. Moira Young is one of the most promising and startling new voices in teen fiction. -Goodreads

Why I'm waiting on this book:
Did you read the summary?? That's why I want to read the book! It sounds so awesome! I'm really looking forward to checking this book out. :)

In My Mailbox #9

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren. It's a great way to showcase the books you've gotten over the week, whether they are bought, borrowed or free.

Here is what is in my mailbox this week...

Bought:

City of Fallen Angels - Cassandra Clare
I finished this in no time. You can see my review HERE!

Ebooks:

Ultraviolet - RJ Anderson | Wings - Aprilynne Pike

Ultraviolet came from Netgalley, and I got Wings for free on B&N's website, through Page Turner's Blog. Wings is still available for download, so if you haven't got it, you should go get it. Like, now. :)

I didn't get many books this week. I was REALLY tempted to buy more, because so many great books came out this week. However, after seeing my TBR list, and all the galley's on my e-readers, I'm putting myself on a book buying/requesting ban. No more new books, (except The Gathering, of course), until I get some of these read. :)

So what's in your mailbox this week?? Leave a comment with your link so I can check it out!

Happy Reading!

Review: City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare

City of Fallen Angels
(The Mortal Instruments #4)
Author: Cassandra Clare
Publication Date: April 5th, 2011
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Teen
Pages: 424
ISBN: 9781442403543

Available for Purchase:
B&N | Amazon | Simon & Schuster

“City of Fallen Angels takes place two months after the events of City of Glass. In it, a mysterious someone’s killing the Shadowhunters who used to be in Valentine’s Circle and displaying their bodies around New York City in a manner designed to provoke hostility between Downworlders and Shadowhunters, leaving tensions running high in the city and disrupting Clary’s plan to lead as normal a life as she can — training to be a Shadowhunter, and pursuing her relationship with Jace. As Jace and Clary delve into the issue of the murdered Shadowhunters, they discover a mystery that has deeply personal consequences for them — consequences that may strengthen their relationship, or rip it apart forever. Meanwhile, internecine warfare among vampires is tearing the Downworld community apart, and only Simon — the Daylighter who everyone wants on their side — can decide the outcome; too bad he wants nothing to do with Downworld politics. Love, blood, betrayal and revenge: the stakes are higher than ever in City of Fallen Angels.”  -Goodreads

My review:

I loved ‘The Mortal Instrument’ series. It is definitely in my top 5 favorite YA series. The first three books were full of awesomeness. I was ecstatic when I heard there would be a fourth book, even though I think City of Glass was the perfect ending for the trilogy.

I read City of Fallen Angels in just a few days time. Although I was trying to read slowly so I could savor it, I still managed to fly through the book. I just had to know what was going on, and what would happen next. I’m glad that Cassie Clare didn’t spend half of the book explaining what happened in the past three books.

Most of City Of Fallen Angels is from Simon’s viewpoint. I’ve always liked him, and in this book we really learned so much more about him. He’s not really the 'nerdy' guy that he was in the previous books, and I enjoyed seeing him grow in his character. He was probably the best part of the book for me.

Then there is Jace, the poor tortured soul. I thought things would be so much better for him and Clary this time around, but it wasn’t so. Jace just didn’t seem like himself to me in this book. Of course, I understand why, but still… He really just wasn’t his sarcastic, bad-ass self. Clary is still in the process of finding learning about her abilities and becoming a shadow hunter.

The other supporting characters are back, and a few are better than ever. Maia and Isabelle are in the book a lot, and I really liked them both, especially Isabelle. We see a softer side of her in City of Fallen Angels, and I really liked it. Magnus and Alec weren’t in the book as much as I hoped they would be, but I enjoyed what parts of them we did see. (I love Magnus!) We see quite a few more characters from the previous books as well… Jocelyn, Luke, Maryse. We are even introduced to a new character, Jordan Kyle, who is an important part of Maia’s past. I like him!

Cassandra Clare’s writing style is absolutely fabulous as always. It drew me in, and kept me interested throughout the whole book. I loved the storyline, even if I wasn’t too thrilled with the cliffhanger ending. I’m looking forward to seeing where she goes with the next two books in the series, City of Lost Souls and City of Heavenly Fire.

Review: Red Glove by Holly Black

Red Glove
(Curse Workers #2)

Publisher: Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing
Pages: 336
ISBN-13: 9781442403390

B&N | Amazon | Simon & Schuster

Curses and cons. Magic and the mob. In Cassel Sharpe's world, they go together. Cassel always thought he was an ordinary guy, until he realized his memories were being manipulated by his brothers. Now he knows the truth—he’s the most powerful curse worker around. A touch of his hand can transform anything—or anyone—into something else.

That was how Lila, the girl he loved, became a white cat. Cassel was tricked into thinking he killed her, when actually he tried to save her. Now that she's human again, he should be overjoyed. Trouble is, Lila's been cursed to love him, a little gift from his emotion worker mom. And if Lila's love is as phony as Cassel's made-up memories, then he can't believe anything she says or does.

When Cassel's oldest brother is murdered, the Feds recruit Cassel to help make sense of the only clue—crime-scene images of a woman in red gloves. But the mob is after Cassel too—they know how valuable he could be to them. Cassel is going to have to stay one step ahead of both sides just to survive. But where can he turn when he can't trust anyone—least of all, himself?

Love is a curse and the con is the only answer in a game too dangerous to lose.  -
Goodreads

My Review:

Cassel and company are back once again in Red Glove, the much awaited sequel to White Cat. I have to say I enjoyed this just as much, if not more, than White Cat! This was a really dark, addictive read! Once I started reading, I definitely couldn’t put it down. I absolutely can’t get enough of this world that Holly Black has created.

I have to say, Cassel is still a really interesting main character to me. Still flawed, but is coming to terms with who he is and what he can do. I liked that he wanted to make things right, even though the things he had done, (without his knowledge), were pretty horrible. He’s still a bad boy, being the school bookie and sneaking out of his school. He’s a really smart guy, and makes a perfect conman. Lila is in the book again, and I have to say I liked her a little more this time. I still really enjoyed reading about Sam and Daneca as well. The mom and the brother still bother me, I just can’t like them!

The storyline and descriptions were well written, as were all the characters. There were a lot of surprises that I didn’t see coming. Some parts really kept me on the edge of my seat. This series is really so different than any other book I’ve read, and I really, really enjoyed reading it!

Check out the Red Glove book trailer!

Waiting on Wednesday #9 - Juliet Immortal

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week, I am waiting on:

Juliet Immortal
by Stacey Jay
Release Date: Sept. 13, 2011
Publisher: Random House (Teens)

The most tragic love story in history . . .
Juliet Capulet didn't take her own life. She was murdered by the person she trusted most, her new husband, Romeo Montague, a sacrifice made to ensure his own immortality. But what Romeo didn't anticipate was that Juliet would be granted eternity, as well, and would become an agent for the Ambassadors of Light. For 700 years, she's fought Romeo for the souls of true lovers, struggling to preserve romantic love and the lives of the innocent. Until the day she meets someone she's forbidden to love, and Romeo, oh Romeo, will do everything in his power to destroy that love. -Goodreads

"Romeo and Juliet, the greatest love story ever told, is a lie."
Right there. The cover alone makes me pine for this book. I absolutely love Romeo and Juliet. Anything relating to them I'm going to adore. The summary sounds captivating, and the cover is gorgeous as well. I think this is going to be a really great read!

Teaser Tuesday - City of Fallen Angels

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

•Grab your current read
•Open to a random page
•Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page. BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
•Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week's teaser is from...

City of Fallen Angels
by Cassandra Clare

He'd also grown his hair long so that it fell in his eyes now, covering his forehead, but that was more necessity than Isabelle. Clary made fun of him about his new look; but, then, Clary found everything about Simon's love life borderline hilarious.
OMG, I am SOOO excited this book is finally here! It's been a super long wait. Who else is starting this today??

Review: Die For Me by Amy Plum

Die For Me
Author: Amy Plum
(Revenants #1)
Release Date: May 10th 2011
Publisher: HarperCollins
Pages: 352
ISBN13: 9780062004017
Source: ARC

Available for Pre-Order:
B&N | Amazon | HarperTeen

My life had always been blissfully, wonderfully normal. But it only took one moment to change everything.

Suddenly, my sister, Georgia, and I were orphans. We put our lives into storage and moved to Paris to live with my grandparents. And I knew my shattered heart, my shattered life, would never feel normal again. Then I met Vincent.

Mysterious, sexy, and unnervingly charming, Vincent Delacroix appeared out of nowhere and swept me off my feet. Just like that, I was in danger of losing my heart all over again. But I was ready to let it happen.

Of course, nothing is ever that easy. Because Vincent is no normal human. He has a terrifying destiny, one that puts his life at risk every day. He also has enemies . . . immortal, murderous enemies who are determined to destroy him and all of his kind.

While I'm fighting to piece together the remnants of my life, can I risk putting my heart—as well as my life and my family's—in jeopardy for a chance at love?
Goodreads.com

My Review:

Die for Me - After the death of her parents, Kate and her sister move to Paris, France to live with their grandparents, in hopes of starting a new life for themselves. Kate doesn’t want anything to do with friends or boys, until she meets the charming Vincent, who makes her feel alive again. But Vincent also has a secret, and Kate must decide if he’s worth risking her heart over.

Wow, this book was really great! The story and characters had me hooked from the beginning, and I had a really hard time putting the book down. It’s definitely a book that will be added to my collection.

The story is absolutely fascinating, and not really what I was expecting. I really connected with the main character, her pain and grief. But she was strong and determined, and while she was grieving, she didn’t totally give up hope. Vincent wasn’t the perfect ‘hero’, by far. But he really cared for Kate, even when he was torn about having her in his world. The secondary characters were well written as well. Jules and Ambrose were really funny, I found myself laughing at them more often than not.

The plot is fast paced and interesting. The writing and descriptions were well written and beautifully described. The ending left me satisfied, but I’m also anxiously looking forward to the next book in the series, coming out next year!
Enjoy!

Thank you to HarperTeen and Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book!
