When her parents are murdered before her eyes, sixteen-year-old Helen Cartwright finds herself launched into an underground London where a mysterious organization called the Dictata controls the balance of good and evil. Helen learns that she is one of three remaining angelic descendants charged with protecting the world's past, present, and future. Unbeknownst to her, she has been trained her whole life to accept this responsibility. Now, as she finds herself torn between the angelic brothers protecting her and the devastatingly handsome childhood friend who wants to destroy her, she must prepare to be brave, to be hunted, and above all to be strong, because temptation will be hard to resist, even for an angel.

Michelle Zink masterfully weaves historical fantasy with paranormal romance to create a gripping tale of love and betrayal. (Goodreads)
A Temptation of Angels is the very first book I’ve read by Michelle Zink. I found the book to be a really enjoyable read, and now I’m really looking forward to reading more by this author!

The main character in the story is sixteen year old Helen Cartwright. Helen is forced to flee her childhood home after the murders of her parents, and is thrust into a life she had been unknowingly prepared for her whole life. With the help of two mysterious brothers, who will do anything to keep her safe, she is forced to face a huge responsibility that is placed on her shoulders.

I found Helen to be quite an interesting character. She was very strong-willed and more independent than she probably should have been at that time period. At times I found her to be a bit too independent; she made a few bad decisions when she should have been playing safe. Otherwise, I really enjoyed her character. I loved the brothers, Griffin and Darius. Griffin was a wonderful, patient love interest to Helen. I really enjoyed their relationship. Darius was an interesting character in his own way; quite the snarky, sarcastic fellow. (He is not a love interest, but I still loved him.)

This book was a lot of fun, and very easy to read. I enjoyed the plot, and found the book to be very well paced. There is a bit of a love triangle, and while I’m not a big fan of them at the moment, this one was well written, and included lots of tension.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick, fun read, and I would love to read more!

Happy Reading!

  4. Great review! I really liked this one as well, although I do agree that Helen came off a bit more independent then can be believable for a girl in that time period. I actually liked the love triangle in this book though, I'm interested to see where it will go in the future.

  6. I think I love Darius already (snarky and sarcastic? I adore!). I'm okay with love triangles provided I can believe in them, so I'm happy that the one in this was executed well. Fantastic review, I can't wait to read this!

  8. She wrote Prophecy of the Sisters, right? I read the first one, which was quite good (I'm bad with series...). Might have to check this one out!
