Follow Friday & TGIF * 12/2 *

Follow Friday! #38

Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee & Alison Can Read. It's a great way to meet new blogger friends!

Q: What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to books? Maybe you don’t like love triangles or thin plots? Tell us about it!

A. I'm definitely NOT a fan of the Insta-love. I mean, come on... I know it can happen quickly, especially with teens, with raging hormones that can't seem to control. But still, don't make it happen in a days time!!!

Love Triangles are another peeve for me. Sometimes they work, rarely... But most times they don't. I always end up rooting for the wrong person, and then I get ticked when the girl doesn't pick my guy! :)

What's your peeves???

TGIF at GReads #6

TGIF at GReads is a Friday Feature hosted by Ginger at GReadsBooks.com!

Writing Reviews 101: What's your process for writing book reviews? Any tips or suggestions you would recommend to other bloggers?

I try to keep my reviews as simple as possible. I talk about the characters, about the story, and then give an overall verdict. It works for me. Sometimes I take notes when I'm reading a book, and add what's in the notes into my review. It definitely keeps me from forgetting what I wanted to write. (Which happens often!)  Everyone has their own way to do reviews, this is just what seems to work for me. :)

Thanks for stopping by everyone! Please leave a comment with your link so I can follow you back!

  2. Ugh, I'm taking notes from you. I still haven't figured out how to write a short review. Me = FAIL.

  3. Hopping through. In theory, I like to keep my reviews simple too, but once I get writing it's hard to stop. So my reviews end up being quite long.

  4. Those are some great answers! You had me laughing out loud with the insta-love. I know how you feel; I despise it too. I mean, come on, you've known this sparkly dude for a day and you just know he is your soul mate? Not buying it.

New follower, by the way. (:

  5. Yes! I wrote about instalove too! It drives me insane when I see characters fall madly in love in literally days. Its the most unrealistic thing imagineable, moreso than vampires and werewolves to me. Give us depth in the relationships please!

  9. Love at first sight= fake, fake, fake. It's just not real, no matter what the author might say.

    Have a great week!

  10. I too dislike instant love (it just isn't realistic for me) and I especially dislike love triangles when they're not written well.

  13. Morning! Sometimes the insta-love works but it depends on the genre, in a dystopian? It drives me nuts, but in a Fantasy it's a definite maybe. I'm also not a fan of the drag it out until the ed kinda love either. Like there has to be a balance between the two. For me, 150 to 200 pages is about as long as I can wait for characters to have a first kiss. Happy friday!

  14. Yeah so don't love insta love! And love triangles, like you said, can be good. There was only one that I recall where the girl didn't end up with the guy I wanted her to be with. Usually though I root for the right guy though.

  15. I totally agree with insta-love. I am fine for the author mentioning this intense connection. However, call it what it is...LUST! Don't have your characters declaring undying love after the first meeting. I get that teenagers have heightened emotions, but not to that extent.

I usually end up picking the wrong guy too (there have a been a few times I have chosen the right one, but it's rare).Love triangles are rarely done right... I love the Will/Tessa/Jem dynamic from Cassandra Clare's series though.

  16. I am so with you on the insta love! I don't mind if there's an instant attraction because that obviously happens, but when they get into the "I can't function for even a single minute without being in your presence" after knowing one another for 2 days I get irritated:) Hope you have an awesome weekend Christy! And sorry my strawberry butt cheeks scared you this morning:)

  21. Hey Christy, Insta-love can be totally anti-climactic, I would way rather watch two characters fall in love and understand the reasons for it than just them laying eyes on one another an BOOM insta-love!

  23. I think most people agree insta-love is annoying! I LOVE love triangles, but think I'm in the minority there...I always end up rooting for the wrong guy as well though =/

  24. Oh I agree with insta-love! It's actually my answer too. It annoys me when a female character falls *deeply* in love with a male character even if she just met him for the first time. Yikes.

    Have a great weekend!
